Khala Hawken is an Australian filmmaker, artist, and designer who is currently living in Peru. Through her art, Khala is interested in exploring the dichotomy between the conscious and the subconscious, often reflecting on human anxiety and ego. In 2014 she completed a Postgraduate Diploma of Performance Creation at The Victorian College of Arts, fusing filmmaking and theatre in dynamic ways by exploring media interaction and projection mapping to create contemporary performance. Since then, she has worked alongside Regional Arts Victoria in their Performing Arts Touring Department and has focused predominantly on filmmaking as her medium, by exploring the limits of Adobe After Effects to create unique visual outcomes.
Khala has recently moved to an area of Peru where the Amazon Jungle meets the Andes Mountains and has begun building an eco-farm / artist/ yoga and health retreat centre and learning from the indigenous cultures of this sacred land.
